BruinBlitz at the 2010 Cabrillo Pangos Dream Classic
Dinos Trigonis put on his annual Dream Classic Saturday at Long Beach (Calif.) Cabrillo and it featured some top teams loaded with great young talent. Among the teams playing were Compton (Calif.) Centennial with UCLA recruit point guard Deonte Burton, going against Etiwanda, Calif., with USC signee Byron Wesley; Los Angeles (Calif.) Price with several high D-I players; La Verne (Calif.) Lutheran, a team loaded with young recruits and Huntington Beach (Calif.) Ocean View with Stanford bound Anthony Brown. BruinBlitz.com will write a separate story on the games while we focus on the individual potential UCLA recruits here.
UCLA came to watch Burton as could be his last game against a good team in a long while. UCLA is apparently close to making its decision to offer him or not. Burton had a sub-par first half but cranked it up making jumpers and layups to finish with 20 points, which is around his average. Burton is strong and tough, possesses a good jump shot with high hops and plays hardnosed defense. He is athletic and plays smart, making few bad decisions. BruinBlitz.com believes that UCLA will likely offer Burton as the Bruins are weak at the guard positions.
Etiwanda has a sophomore point guard, 6-0 Jevion Roland, who is very quick, has a good handle and a nice jump shot. He is a future prospect that could separate himself from the pack and be the next point guard UCLA takes from this high school after Darren Collison. Roland plays a smart game and sets his teammates up with good passes for easy shots. BruinBlitz.com looks forward to watching him play down the road.
