NU Notes: Walk-on Young ready to make an impact
For those that don't think the small town Nebraska walk-on stories exist anymore, redshirt freshman tight end Dreu Young is here to prove you wrong.
The 6-foot-4, 220 pound walk-on from Cozad came to Lincoln a little over a year ago, and he already finds himself listed No. 3 on the depth chart over players like scholarship tight end Mike McNeill.
First year NU tight ends coach Joe Rudolph has only worked with Young for less than a year, but everything he's seen so far leads him to believe he has a pretty bright future in head coach Bill Callahan's West Coast offense.
"The one thing that that Dreu has done since I've been here in the spring is he's always he always knew what to do and he always did it fast," Rudolph said. "Those two things will get you a long way, and he does that. He brings that aspect. He's very knowledgeable and I can depend on him when I throw him in there. He does a great job."
What stands out to Callahan about Young is the potential playmaking ability he brings to the tight end position that quite frankly has been missing the last few seasons in Lincoln.
