BYU looking to the JC ranks

The one position that BYU continues to look to the JC ranks is in the defensive backfield. For the 2015 recruiting class BYU has been started with that trend and have been reaching out to Na'im McGee out of Diablo Valley Community College in Pleasont Hill, CA.

"They started recruiting me right when I started going to junior college. I sent them my stuff out of high school but I knew I would be going to junior college and then the letters were there all through the summer," said McGee about when BYU started recruiting him.

Recently though he started hearing from BYU more than just letters. Last week McGee received a call from Coach Kaufusi.

"He (Coach Kaufusi) asked if BYU would be a school I would be interested in and talked to me about the history, the tradition and how they have certain rules that need to be followed. I went to a Catholic High School so the rules are pretty similar and something that I wouldn't have a problem with…He said they were very interested in me and loved the way that I played and that hopefully they could get me down for a visit. He explained to me about the defense and packages they run and what the coaches are like," said McGee.

De'ondre Wesley who has played very well for the Cougars this year is also from Diablo Valley Community College. During BYU's bye week he took the time to go back to Cali and visited with old teammates there, one of them being McGee. The two had a chance to talk about BYU and how Wesley is liking it.

"He said he likes it a lot and that it is not like what some people say about it. He said it is a great school and that he enjoys the coaches, the people. He said it is not a school that you are going to dread going to, that it is a lot of fun. I also liked the sweatshirt he had on so I was wonder about the gear. He said they get some sweet gear and he showed me a picture of the jerseys they wore for the Utah game and I thought they were super nice."

So what is next for McGee and BYU? Coach Kaufusi has expressed to McGee of the desire to get him on campus and visit the school. When asked if he plans on visiting BYU, McGee had this to say. "Definitely, I'm planning on following up with him and he also knows my coach and then we can get together and plan on a time to visit."

McGee currently holds offers from Nevada, San Diego State, San Jose State and Wyoming. Others schools recruiting him that have not offered are Auburn and Arizona State
