Torry McTyer Recieving Interest From BYU
One of the best years for BYU football was in 96' when the cougars started the season with a win against Texas A&M and ended the season winning the Cotton Bowl against Kansas State. BYU ended #5 in the nation that year and a big reason why is because of CB Tim McTyer
Well that same Tim McTyer has a son named Torry, who finished his senior season at Cathedral High School in Los Angeles, CA. The younger McTyer is 6-foot-1, 175-pounds and was being recruited as an athlete by schools from the Pac-12, MWC and WAC.
After receiving an offer from Cal McTyer committed as an athlete, certainly Cal liked that he could on either side of the ball and ran a 4.45 forty. But, this last week McTyer was informed that his SAT score was too low and that he no longer had an offer.
So with that recruiting process began again, reaching out to coaches and letting them know he was available. Those who have expressed interest are Colorado, Colorado State, Fresno State and Wyoming who he will be visiting tomorrow.
But as of today, also in that mix of schools interested is BYU. "I talked to Coach Howell today. He said that would be good for me to go there and that they have a lot of tradition there and that it is a different environment than most school. He really just wanted to see where my head was at." said McTyer.
Last year McTyer and his high school team visited BYU for the summer passing camp. " I like is how different it is and that I would not be getting into trouble." It would also help that Tim is looking to get his masters here at BYU and so he would be right here with his son and make every home game.
With the recent opening up of scholarships in the last two weeks this open the possibility for McTyer. Certainly the coaches will be doing their homework and watching film to know if an offer will be extended. If there is, I can only imagine the joy on cougarnation when they see a #21 McTyer back in LaVell Edwards Stadium.
McTyer currently holds a 3.7 GPA and this last semester was on Principle, equivalent to Honor Roll.
