Profiling every player in BYU's class of 2017. This installment looks at three-star tight end Isaac Rex from San Clemente, California.
The last name Rex should be familiar to BYU fans, Byron Rex was a TE for BYU in the late 80s and early 90s. He was a standout at his position and was an important part of a storied history of tight ends at BYU. Well, BYU fans will get to have a blast from the past when Isaac Rex joins the BYU team in a couple of years.
Isaac Rex is going to follow the path his father laid out and go to BYU after serving an LDS mission. Isaac, a three-star TE out of powerhouse San Clemente High School in California, is going to help revive the Tight End-U.
"It's been a life long dream of mine to carry out the tradition of my parents (and play for BYU," Rex told Cougar Nation.
So, what kind of player is Ty Detmer's offense getting? A big, throwback tight end. Rex blocks well. He has great hands. He is going to be a terror for defenses on third and short and in goal line situations. He has a knack for finding open spots on the field and getting the ball. His game reminds me of former BYU tight end, Andrew George. I think his career could end up being just as good, if not better.
Rex will head on a mission after high school and join the team in 2019, so fans will have to wait to see him in action. His return will be anxiously anticipated by fans and coaches alike. He's a great player.
