An Example of How BYUs Independence Has Impacted Recruiting

BYU coaches have talked about the influence of being on ESPN has had on recruits. In case you want an example, here is one. Meet George Brown, all 6-foot-6, 243-pounds of him. George has no relationship to BYU, he lives in Ohio, and is a Christian but not of the Mormon of faith.
As big as Brown is, he is still only a sophomore. This last year Brown played TE for his high school in Cincinatti. Next year he also plans to play DE but college coaches are recruiting him to play OT. So what does that tell you, he has size and he has skill. Brown said the two players he emulates his game after are Michael Oher and Jason Pierre Paul.

Here is the list of colleges Brown is currently hearing from; Miami of Ohio, Toledo, LSU, Miami, Michigan State, Louisville, Cincinnati, Indiana, Kentucky, Boston College, Mississippi State, Florida and Auburn and as of right now, no BYU.
So you may be wondering, why the interest in BYU? "I like the honor code thing because it's good that no one will be doing drugs or drinking on campus. I also like that BYU's law program is ranked in the top 50 in the nation." said Brown who currently holds a 3.3 GPA.
Brown remembers watching the BYU vs Notre Dame this year and thinking that BYU was going to pull off the upset. And from there the interest in BYU began, as he began researching more and more about school and its football program.
Though there are several years before he has to decide on what school he wants to attend. Brown is doing the research now to make sure when that time comes he is well educated on what will be best for him. Will BYU be in the mix when that time comes?
