BYU keeps it 100 in landing Trevion Greene

The spring football game garnered the most headlines this past weekend surrounding the BYU football program, but for recruitniks, the attention was around the official visit of junior college transfer Trevion Greene.

Greene, a 6’4” 200-pound cornerback from Chabot College in Northern California, came away impressed with his official visit to BYU. So much so that the track star decided to pledge to the Cougars the following day.

Greene is a late addition to the 2017 class and will be signing his letter of intent to BYU soon, and he plans on joining the Cougars this May to compete for playing time in the Cougars talented secondary.

Along with BYU, Greene held an FBS offer from Iowa State in the Big 12 Conference. Greene picked BYU over the Cyclones for a number of reasons was cornerbacks coach Jernaro Gilford.

“He is a great man. Very honest like the entire staff at BYU, and he’s warm hearted. Coach Gilford treated me like family and he kept it one hundred with me on my entire visit.”

Greene knows there will be a lot of work to compete for playing time right away, but that is his expectation despite being a newcomer to not only Provo, but the cornerback position as well.

While prepping at Milpitas High School (same school as BYU running back Squally Canada), Greene excelled at wide receiver. When he signed at Chabot College, he played cornerback for the first time in his football career. It was an adjustment but his combination of size and speed is what has BYU’s coaching staff feeling like they found a true hidden gem that will thrive under Gilford.

That speed is also on display on the track & field scene at Chabot. Greene participates in the 100 meters and his best time to date has been a 10.74, and he’s looking to improve as he goes to the Stanford Invitational this weekend to compete.

When he enrolls this May, Greene will have three years to play three at BYU and he can’t wait to get it started.

“I love the place [BYU], and I am really looking forward to Coach Gilford being my position coach.”
