The BYU football team reports to fall camp next Wednesday. Fall camp is always an exciting time to see new faces on the practice fields of the Student Athlete Building. Who are the newcomers, and what can we expect from them in camp?

Ask, and you shall receive. Here's a breakdown of the defensive newcomers and predictions on what they will do this season.

Lui is an intriguing prospect to me. BYU was his only FBS offer coming out of Pittsburg, California, but I feel he’s now a better fit for BYU’s new 4-3 scheme. I could see Lui earning some playing time in games that are blowouts. Due to his age from going on a mission, I don’t foresee a redshirt barring an injury.

Injuries sidelined Lolohea during spring ball. He has good hips coming off the edge. I struggle to picture a prospect who originally signed with Weber State to have much of an impact, but Kalani and staff see potential in him when you consider he has a scholarship. Will see a lot of time on special teams.

Most years, the hype train leaves the station well before a four-star signee arrives on campus at BYU. Because of the depth and a lack of need for Tuifua to step right in and perform, the hype surrounding Tuifua entering camp has been mild at best. Expect him to play this season, his talent is undeniable. Ilaisa Tuiaki and Kalani Sitake were all over Tuifua when he was a young sophomore in high school, while they were at Utah. They loved his talent then, and they definitely love the potential he has this year and beyond. If anything happens to Sione Takitaki, here’s your next best bet at a pass rushing extraordinaire.
